Home Volunteer Opportunities

The Senior Connection is a great place to volunteer! We have many flexible options. We have opportunities for direct caregiving as well as ways to contribute by providing supportive services and serving as board and committee members. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer in any of these roles. Also, contact us if you have an idea about developing a new project for seniors. The Senior Connection is willing and able to incubate worthwhile programs if they enable us to carry out our mission and extend support to new audiences. If you can contribute two hours per month, we can find a volunteer job for you!

Volunteer Opportunities

Current opportunities for this kind of volunteer commitment include the following roles:

  • Escort Driver: Driving seniors to medical appointments, grocery stores, banks and pharmacies.

  • Grocery Shopper: Taking a senior's shopping list to the store and delivering his or her groceries.

  • Friendly Visitor: Spending time with an older neighbor each week by visiting in his or her home.

  • Telephone Reassurance Worker: Making regular telephone calls to a homebound senior to be certain that he or she is well and in contact with family and friends.

  • Bill Paying and Paper Work Assistant: Helping a senior write checks, decipher complicated medical bills and sort though the mail one or two times each month.

  • Respite Care Worker: Spending an hour or two with a homebound senior so that his or her regular caregiver can get out of the house without worrying about leaving the senior alone.

  • Computer Mentor or Coach: Working in one of our Seniors On-Line sites, helping folks search the Internet, send and receive e-mails and order goods and services online.

Support Services

A number of individuals volunteer as members of our management team. They help with accounting, data processing, technical assistance, translation, public relations, coordinating volunteer activities, volunteer recognition and training programs. Volunteers also do home visits with prospective care-receivers and serve as telephone intake counselors. There is also a role for volunteer program managers, as in the case of Seniors On-Line. As an agency firmly connected to its grass roots, The Senior Connection welcomes an opportunity to support new programs.

Policy Guidance and Community Relations

The Board of Directors of The Senior Connection is dedicated to providing policy guidance and promoting our mission in the community. Service on the board and on committees of the board offers important volunteer opportunities.
